Frequently Asked Questions…
The item I wanted to order is out of stock, will you be making more?
I aim to keep my shop stocked up with a range of items however sometimes I run out of time to list new things / restock. Get in touch and I can let you know if I have any on my stock shelf or I can make you one to order.
Do you take orders for dinner-sets?
Yes, I love making bespoke dinner-sets. I make all tableware to order so I am happy to work to specific sizes and shapes. You are welcome to arrange a studio visit to see my samples, discuss the details etc.
Sometimes I can’t take on a dinner-set order straight away so will give you an idea of the time-frame before taking a deposit.
Will my items be identical?
My ceramics are mostly thrown on the pottery wheel and finished in handmade glazes. Whilst I measure everything meticulously whilst making them, there are often small variations between pots – to me that is the beauty of ordering something handmade. Each pot is unique.
Where does your clay come from?
I use a mix of stoneware clays, all produced in Stoke on Trent.
Can I put handmade ceramics in the dishwasher?
Handwashing is recommended for extra care however all of my pots are dishwasher safe.
Can I glue a mug handle back on?
Unfortunately, this is something that I would not encourage. Despite there being lots of ceramic glues available I am unable to guarantee that they are strong enough to fix a handle, especially on an item that is being used to contain hot liquids.
To fix breakages of other items, you could try a ceramic glue or kintsugi (a Japanese technique of fixing ceramics using gold lacquer). There are lots of DIY kits available.
How do I remove cutlery marks?
Sometimes cutlery can leave grey marks on plates or bowls. If this happens, these marks can be removed using a thick paste of bicarbonate of soda and warm soapy water or a magic product called the pink stuff. Gently rub the mark in circular motions with a sponge or scourer (non-metallic).
Are your items ethically made?
I aim to reduce my impact on the environment by:
- Recycling all greenware (unfired pots) which are not worth firing so that the clay can be re-used
- I use a sustainable energy provider and I invested in a very energy efficient kiln which I only fire when it’s full to the brim
- I often work with a bucket system for water so that I can re-use as much as possible
- I only use recycled, recyclable or biodegradable packaging
Do you do custom orders or commissions?
Yes I do, please get in touch via the contact form or by email (liz.vidal@live.com) to discuss your ideas further. I’ve done everything from bespoke coffee cups for bakeries to wedding favours to honey pots to personalised mugs.
Can I hire your items for a shoot?
Definitely, I have a range of samples which are available to hire.
